Connecting AUSSIE with AUSSIE Info+Business

It was late 1999 as I registered www.DIRECTORY.com.au Pty Ltd
Why? I had a small Business Web-Site I was trying to advertise; this was at the time only possible with Yahoo @ $5000.00 no thanks to much for an Aussie small Business. I did ask myself why there was not one Australian Internet Directory? I was sure in the near future every Aussie Business would need to be listed to advertise and connect with their Customers was the Reason I started the first one in Australia.
To get the URL DIRECTORY was not that easy auDA would not release any Generic Names till 2002 and than only by Auction raising much needed Money for the Industry. Having the Company Name given me the rights to bid for the generic word DIRECTORY but I had one bidder against me who would not being able or allowed to use the URL as it was also my Company Name. But I still had to pay close to $20.000, not as bad as the word FLORIST a cool $60.000
The Design and creation of the Site with a DATA-BASE large enough to cover all Australian Businesses as listed currently in all Australian Phone Books with Phone Numbers plus all and any Information Web-Site existing in Australia, costing me another $14.000.
DIRECTORY was designed to be in Categories to be separated in States, Territories and National, similar to use as in Phone-Book search, as old habits are hard to beat.
In 2002 I finally went on line with mostly only Information Listings I had collected since 1999 and some Business listings in Categories similar than to the old Pink Page Phone-Books. Australia’s first original Phone Book, witch had free Alphabetical Listing for every Business Phone. I followed the old Idea and made free Alphabetical Listing for every Aussie Web-Site encouraging Business to get Australia on-line.
I was lucky retiring in the year 2000 as I now had to list in many hundreds of Categories the daily free listing entries the maximum of over 3000 on one Day with a minimum of at least 7-8 every single Day since 2002, witch make us the largest on-line DIRECTORY in Australia.
Since 2002 I also added any possible Aussie info Site to the Directory and started the “Community and Tourist info” Site “Local Healers” finding Help in Need and “RevsCheck” for Automotive info, all free Info Sites for the Australian Community all Sites I created linking back in to the DIRECTORY’S enormous DATA-BASE.
DIRECTORY is for Environmental reason prepared for the future, it is big enough to eventual replace all Australian Printed Phone-Books for every State and Territory. IT also will provide the Australian Community with any and all required Daily information.
As time goes by and eventual all Communication and Marketing will be done online and Phone-Books become a distant memory very large and financial well off Companies of coarse do not want to be
listed in alphabetical order down the line and we trying to keep Banner Ads to a limit, we have Priority listing @ a Price this mean in every Category the first five spots being reserved for Companies paying for the privilege to be on top of the List.
But Alphabetical free listing shall continue to bring every Australian Business on-line, like Phone-Books use to do with numbers, but our space in the Data-Base is unlimited (still small compared to American Search Engine) and we shall not stop with this free Service for Australian Businesses.
What started in 1999 and continued for me as a Hobby will one Day be a very necessary large part of the Australian Communities Communication.
